In 2020 Ormus was appointed by Sociedad Legal Minera (Minera) to seek indicative offers for the license tenements of lithium deposits located 170 km (106 m) from the city of Copiapo, Atacama Desert, Chile.
The license brine tenements have an area of 4,200 hectares (10,378 acres) and are located inside the Polygon defined by Codelco for the Government in 2017, upon signature of Agreement Nº 2224/2017, authorizing public and private investors to explore and exploit Maricunga. The polygon is located on the southwest area of the Maricunga salt field, and today public and private sectors investors can request exploration and exploitation licenses. Codelco, Soquimich, COMINOR, Lithium Power International and many other firms own concessions in the polygon.
Salar de Maricunga is the second best salt field in the world in lithium content, only after Salar de Atacama. The salt field has an area of ≈3,045 km2 (≈752,436 acres) and is located at an elevation of ≈3,760 masl (≈12,336 ftasl). Chile has largest verified Li reserves, with a stock of over 7.5 million tons of the element, located within the Lithium Triangle.
